Definitely worth further exploration

Really wanted fish and chips but couldn't decide on where to get take-away. Decided instead to try out the Red Rose Inn in order to avoid the perennial 'soggy by the time they get home' problem. First impressions were good. Beautiful bar with the quaint charm you would expect of a 15th Century inn. The ales did not disappoint. Two eminent local brews Mauldon's Silver Adder (Sudbury) and Hellhound (Hadleigh) were as far as I got. Both superbly kept, delicious brews. Our fish and chip mission brief meant that our exploration of the menu was somewhat curtailed. Four orders for fish and chips brought simple but delicious beer battered fish and well cooked chips. Garden peas (no pretentious pureed or crushed peas here) and a very competent tartare sauce were provided in mini-ramekins. Plates were cleared. Service was pleasant and friendly without being overbearing. Toilets were clean. I can't pick any significant faults. Certainly if the rest of the menu is as good as the fish and chips then my next review will be 5 stars.
