So far more than 42,000 people from both Babergh and Mid Suffolk have voted in the poll which asks: 'At the moment, Babergh and Mid Suffolk are separate district councils. Should these councils be replaced by one district council?'
Everyone registered to vote in the Babergh area has been sent voting papers. You are able to vote by telephone, text or electronically. The closing date for votes is Monday June 6.
Speaking about the vote Councillor Jennie Jenkins, Chairman of Babergh's Strategy Committee had a clear message for people living in Hadleigh.
She said: 'It doesn't matter how you let us know your view, the important thing to remember is that your vote really does count'".
If more than 50% of people vote in favour of the merger the plans for the merger will be considered by the Government. If there is a no vote the idea will be scrapped altogether.
To find out more details about what the merger would mean and how you can vote please visit the Babergh District Council website.
