Unemployment levels have risen in the Babergh District
Nationally the figures showed a 17 per cent rise in unemployment. There are now 2.64 million people that are currently unemployed in the UK.
According to the Ipswich Evening Star most parts of Suffolk saw an increase in the number of people claiming job seekers allowance. The worse hit area was Babergh where the count rose by 52 to 1,227. This is an unemployment rate of 2.4%.
The Suffolk Chamber of Commerce responded to the disappointing unemployment figures by publishing a statement from the British Chamber of Commerce on their website.
It said: "The figures show that the public sector accounts for more than the entire decline in employment, while the private sector has created 5,000 new jobs.
"But with job losses in the public sector likely to continue, every effort must be made to help the private sector create more jobs."
The British Chamber of Commerce recently predicted that total UK unemployment is likely to increase to 2.77m or 8.7 percent of the workforce by the end of 2012.
